GOVERNOR MASARI AND ISSUE OF ANNUL LEVY. by Hassan Datti
It is a tradition of the opposition parties to go against government good policies with total condemnation and critics unobjectively.
It was known that there are some people who are seem to be in total support of PDP that have engaged in blackmailing the present administration of Rt Hon Aminu Bello Masari in given misinterpretation of the good policy that was recently executed by the Katsina State Government on annual levy to be paid by privates and commercials vehicles users.
It would be nice to discuss and deliberate on an issues by taking the both sides, positive and negative before reaching to conclusion which would either the cons supersede the pros, or the pros to supersede the cons.
Before communicating issue of government policy negatively, let us first of all be honest and understand its advantages and diadvantages, if otherwise, we're likely say rubbish which would be considered by the interllectuals as stuff as garbage.
It is not wise to use our conscience wrongly in analysing material issue that worth to have our different deliberations. Now some people with little knowledge in this issue have just sum it up and say Governor Masari imposed unnecessary levy to people of Katsina State, while if they were ask for for prove, they can't say anything relevant that worth to be considered.
Yeah! What ever we are going to either write or say, it is our freedom to do so but we have to know that, a good government must have good policies, focus and forsight to mange the fairs of its masses and improve their wellbeing in every sector.
The good policies initiated always stay in the front line of governance for the benefit of all. It is bitter to know that, we are not expected to live the life we feel living in rejection to government policies, we must be submissible and compliance to the government policies for our progress and stability.
The so called imposed levy is the normal tax that is already in the law and it is normal for every fellow individual to pay but due to the known carelessness of the past administration, they failed to handle and managed because the resources of incomes in those days were many and after all, the petrol as major revenue source were sell at a very handsome amount per barrel which is otherwise today.
Now we are in a situation of the dwindling economy that made some state of this country unable to paid the salaries of their workers which is a known fact, it is with the help of the CBN bail out money granted to them are able to sustain and continue with payment of the workers salaries.
Katsina State Government means goodness to fellow individuals in state, most especially common men. All what this policy is all about is to get a registration of our vehicles, vehicle plate number registration and pay our vehicle daily tax at the sum of N6200 per annum for private users motorcycle while for commercial motorcycle is N6650 per annum at the State Internal Revenue Office.
Let me draw some analysis below; if we divide the total sum of N6200 per annum by daily basis ; N6200 ÷ 360days = N17.22k per day. It is N17.22k is to pay per day for a motorcycle only. Tricycle (Yar Kur'Kura) is to pay sum of N7500 per annum. Motorcycle plate number registration is now N3500 unlike before which is N7500. Car plate number registration N15,000 during the PDP administration it was N20,000. The APC government decreased 1/3 of the total sum of plate number registration for the afford of every owner.
To sum up the benefits of this policy which it seem new to an eye of opponents, the vehicle registration would decrease the vehicle theft to some measures.
It would help the security agencies trace and identify criminals when vehicles involved in a crime.
It would help the Road Safety Corps and other relevent agencies to identify the families of casualties when accident was occurred
It would assist the government to have the record of road users.
It would boost the State Internally Generated Revenue Sector.
It would immensely decrease the crimes with the use of vehicles.
It would assist passengers who could easily forget their luggage in vehicle, trace and find drivers for recovery of their forgot luggages.
If am to continue mentioning the benefits of this policy, I will say much more that but these benefits could not be over emphasized.
